In the current world of disruptive technologies, the energy sector is finding itself at the forefront with major transformations taking place. The electric power grid is getting cleaner and more sustainable through large scale integration of renewable power. Wind power is at the helm of this activity with phenomenal growth around the world. Both academia and industry are working together to address the challenges of integrating large quantities of wind power in a stable and reliable manner. In this presentation, an overview of these challenges will be provided along with their industry-adopted solutions. Real-life experiences in wind plant integration will also be shared.
Sudipta Dutta graduated with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2012. Currently, she is a Senior Engineer at GE Energy Consulting based in Schenectady, NY. She has over a decade of experience in the power and energy area, with a focus on renewable energy. Sudipta has co-authored over 15 peer-reviewed publications and a patent. She is a member of IEEE Power and Energy Society and CIGRE where she is also part of several working group committees. Sudipta has won several prestigious awards at Illinois and GE including Grainger Power Engineering Award, Joan and Lalit Bahl Fellowship, Earnest A. Reid Fellowship and a Gold medal from the Prime Minister of India for securing first position in order of merit in MS. She is a trained vocalist, artist, and travel enthusiast.
