Biography:

Dr. Weimin Wang holds a Ph.D. in Building Engineering from Concordia University, Canada. From 2006 to 2008, he worked as an NSERC visiting research fellow at Natural Resources Canada, where he performed intensive research on building energy simulation program development and applications. In 2008, he joined the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) as a senior research scientist. At PNNL, Dr. Wang acted as a technical contributor, technical lead, and principal investigator for a variety of research projects such as advanced controls for packaged rooftop units, building test bed development for control of complex systems, advanced energy guides for both new and existing buildings, and EnergyPlus development. In 2016, he joined UNC Charlotte as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology and Construction Management.

At UNC Charlotte, Dr. Wang will continue his research on modeling, analysis and control of building systems. In particular, he is interested with the design and implementation of an infrastructure to collect real-time operation data from campus buildings, perform energy data analytics using data science techniques, and improve building operation for energy efficiency and grid services. His long-term goal is to realize a smart UNCC campus where innovative ideas and advanced technologies for building energy efficiency and grid services can be developed, tested, and demonstrated.
