EPIC congratulates ECCE 2014’s Oral Session student winner, Iman Mazhari

The Sixth Annual IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exhibition (ECCE 2014) was held in Pittsburgh, PA. on September 14 – 18, 2014 with almost 1500 attendees. Iman Mazhari’s paper, "Locking Frequency Band Exposure Method for Islanding Detection and Prevention in Distributed Generation," was selected as one of the top eleven best works to receive the ECCE 2014 oral presentation award.

UNC Charlotte Faculty Members Addressing Coal Ash Solutions

Newswise — CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Oct. 2, 2014 – UNC Charlotte faculty members are among a prestigious group of experts seeking safe and practical solutions for disposing of coal ash.

The University has convened a blue-ribbon panel of nationally recognized experts to serve on an independent board that will review Duke Energy’s strategy and procedures for closing its ash impoundments in North Carolina and throughout the nation.

Alpha Omega Epsilon members volunteer to restore the CRI parking deck

September 29, 2014

The Charlotte Research Institute (CRI) parking deck is usually the first impression of UNC Charlotte for most of EPIC's visitors and many of UNC Charlotte’s football fans. Alpha Omega Epsilon members, Jenna Brown, Meredith Hilliard, Mia Gore, Paula Canter and Lauren Sheplock, volunteered to clean the CRI deck’s elevator cars and stairwells on Tuesday, September 16. EPIC sends special thanks to those hard working ladies for helping to ensure the CRI deck leaves the best first impression.

CEEC Completes Its First Month with EPIC Lab Tours

September 28, 2014

The Charlotte Engineering Early College's (CEEC) first ninth grade class celebrated their first month of completion by touring several EPIC labs. The group visited the Hydraulics, Smart Grid, High Bay and Solar Panel labs. EPIC's Assistant Director, David Causey, presented a brief overview of the program to each group of students while lab directors and managers provided details on each focus area.

Southern California Edison Advanced Technology Division visits EPIC

A team of 4 members from Southern California Edison Advanced Technology Division visited with EPIC staff April 3 2014 to discuss opportunities for collaboration on Power Systems Modernization.. SCE is a large, mainly Transmission and Distribution investor-owned utility,  servicing 14 million+ people in 180 cities and 11 counties covering 50,000 square miles of service area that includes 5,000 large businesses and 280,000 small businesses.
