The Open Distribution System Simulator is the open source version of the EPRI Distribution System Simulator (DSS) software. This power system analysis software is used to assess a wide variety of distribution applications. DSS was originally developed for distribution planning studies that required the assessment of distributed generation and other distributed resource evaluations. These simulations required assessment over all time periods, not just individual points in time (such as peak load). Now, as issues of energy efficiency and demand management become more critical for distribution management, as well as for individual customers, this type of assessment capability is more essential than ever.
OpenDSS software supports many different research areas at EPRI and in the utility industry. It is at the core of large initiatives to evaluate distribution efficiency (Green Circuits), PHEV integration into distribution, systems, and distribution system control strategies for new technologies. This workship provides background on the OpenDSS software and illustrates with case studies based on actual distribution system models. See the full agenda and registration information for more event details.
