Energy Systems Concentration

Students can earn an M.S. in Engineering Management with a concentration in Energy Systems.
To earn the Energy Systems concentration, students need to take four of the following courses:
One required core course:
  • EMGT 5961  Introduction to Energy Systems (3)
Plus three of the following:
  • EMGT 5962  Energy Markets (3)
  • EMGT 5963  Energy Systems Planning (3)
  • EMGT 5964  Case Studies in the Energy Industry (3)
  • EMGT 6965  Energy Analytics (3)

Belk College of Business: Master of Business Administration Energy Concentration

Concentrations give students an opportunity to enhance the general M.B.A., which may provide another competitive advantage in the workplace. A cooperative effort between the Belk College of Business and the Lee College of Engineering, the program is thought to be the first MBA in the country focused on the power industry. Students will enroll in the MBA and then take specialized courses in topics such as Energy Markets, Energy and Environmental Economics and Energy Systems Planning to earn the concentration.

Plus two of the following courses with at least one from ECON 5181, EMGT 5963, or EMGT 5964:
  • ECON 5181 Energy and Environmental Economics

  • EMGT 5963 Energy Systems Planning

M.S. in Applied Energy and Electromechanical Systems

The program consists of a 15-credit hour common core and a 15-credit capstone experience; the capstone experience is comprised of either a sequence of 15-credit hours of major electives or a sequence which inclues 6-credit hours of major electives, a 3-hour Research and Analytical Methods course and a formal 6-credit hour graduate research thesis. The 30-credit hour degree program is outlined below:

  • ENER 6135 Energy Transmission and Distribution
  • ENER 6150 System Dynamics
  • ENER 6170 Applied Mechatronics
  • ETGR 5272 Engineering Analysis IV
